THEO BLECKMANN is one of the original members of the Kollektif and gave the group its name. This genre-bending, German-born vocalist/composer is recognized for his concert- and vocal/visual-work, and has performed at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall, the Sydney Opera House, the new library of Alexandria, Egypt and the Neue Galerie in New York, where his German cabaret show continues to draw high praise. New Yorker Magazine calls him a "local cult favorite," the New York Times "excellent," and according to OUT Magazine, he is "a singer who has only recently fallen to earth." Theo's unusual vocal capabilities have inspired composers such as Mark Dresser, John Hollenbeck, Phil Kline, Ben Monder and Kirk Nurock to create pieces especially for him. He has worked closely with composer/performance artist Meredith Monk since 1994, and with such other artists as Laurie Anderson, Anthony Braxton, Steve Coleman, Dave Douglas, Philip Glass, Anthony Jackson and Sheila Jordan. Theo has been a guest vocalist with the San Francisco Symphony Chorus, Estonian Radio Choir, Merce Cunningham Dance Company and Mark Morris Dance Group. He contributed his vocal sounds to the movie Men in Black and can be heard on Bobby Mcferrin's upcoming record. His own newest CD anteroom has been released on Traumton Recordings. Las Vegas Rhapsody with the Basel Kammerorchester was released in January 2006. www.TheoBleckmann.com.
